Tropitone Offers Additional Choices For Designers

Expanded Table Sizes For Outdoor Cafés And Restaurants

Irvine, Calif., April 4, 2005 - Tropitone Furniture Co., a leading manufacturer of fine casual furniture, is offering designers additional flexibility for their hospitality clients with several new sizes in both of its Patterned Aluminum Tables and Mosaic Tabletops that complement a variety of Tropitone's popular outdoor seating collections.

According to Peter Homestead, vice president of design for Tropitone, "As outdoor dining continues to gain popularity in all regions of the country, restaurateurs and hoteliers are expanding their seating onto the courtyards and patios adjacent to sidewalks. As this trend has unfolded in recent years, the market demand for more interesting outdoor casual furniture that is not only durable, but also similar in style and comfort to indoor dining furniture, has grown, too. As a result, more resources and time are spent today designing these popular, alfresco dining settings to create a casual but elegant dining experience," he said.

"To accommodate this trend, Tropitone's Patterned Aluminum Tables, which previously were available to the hospitality market in a 42-inch round and a 48-inch round size are now being offered in additional sizes in both round and square shapes in the Boulevard Patterned Aluminum Table. The new round sizes are: 20-inch, 24-inch, 30-inch with an umbrella hole, a 36-inch with an umbrella hole and a 42-inch with an umbrella hole. The new square sizes are: 30-inch with an umbrella hole, 36-inch with an umbrella hole and a 42-inch with an umbrella hole. The table is also available in a 24 by 36-inch rectangular.

"We also are introducing several new café sizes in the Mosaic Tabletops to make it easier for designers to facilitate this preference in the marketplace for more elegant, casual dining in the outdoors. With their dramatic upscale look, the Mosaic Tabletops create the appearance of ceramic tiles, yet because they are constructed with high-density urethane, they don't require the high maintenance that ceramic tile surfaces need. This combination of drama and durability is ideal for today's outdoor café dining settings," Homestead said.

The new Mosaic Tabletops are offered by Tropitone in both round and square sizes. The new round sizes are: 24-inch, 30-inch, 36-inch, 36-inch with an umbrella hole, 42-inch and 42-inch with an umbrella hole, and the new square sizes are 30-inch, 36-inch and 36-inch with an umbrella hole. A 36-inch by 24-inch rectangular Mosaic Tabletop is also offered. All of these new café-size Mosaic Tabletops are available in five patina finishes including -- Cathedral (dark black with a hint of rust), Walnut, Sand, Terra Cota, and Taupe. Each of these patina finishes coordinate with the other finishes and fabrics offered in the Tropitone casual furniture collection -- as well those in the Basta Sole Umbrella Collection.

According to Michael Echolds, Tropitone's chief executive officer, the company's 50-year tradition has been to offer decorative yet practical options in casual outdoor furniture to the hospitality market, including not only a broad selection of styles but functionality as well -- such as stackable furniture and, now, the new café-sized tables and tabletops.

"Designers always are looking for unique seating and dining solutions that can work well in an ever broadening array of environments. Tropitone's new café-sized tables and tabletops, which complement all of Tropitone's key seating collections, including the very popular Impressions and Palladian Collections as well as La Scala, Sorrento, Tuscano Lorenzo, Maison, and Provence, have expanded these options even further.

"For example, we believe the popularity of such recent collections as Impressions and Palladian is driven by the tremendous choice and flexibility they give designers. This tradition of offering as much choice and selection to designers as possible is a tradition we work to build upon at Tropitone with every new season of product introductions. Our new café-sized tables and tabletops this season are an ongoing part of this effort. They are especially well-suited for creating intimate, social gathering places where people can get together to relax after shopping, to network, or to share conversation while dining together," Echolds said.

Founded in 1954, Tropitone is based in Irvine, California, and is recognized throughout the casual furniture marketplace for its design leadership as well as its commitment to service and value. The company sells its products to retailers, designers and the hospitality trade under the Tropitone and Basta Sole trademarks. In addition to its headquarters and manufacturing plant in Irvine, the company operates a manufacturing facility in Sarasota, Florida.
