New Veer Seating Collection Features A Dramatically Contemporary Style
Irvine, Calif. April 10, 2008 – Tropitone Furniture Co., a leading manufacturer of fine casual furniture, announced today the launch of its Veer Collection featuring a unique seating surface designed with gracefully curved cast aluminum slats, which appear so light and airy that they seem to be floating over the collection’s frame.
According to Michael Echolds, chief executive officer of Tropitone, the Veer Collection features not only a uniquely shaped seating surface but also is one of the first contemporary-styled cast aluminum seating groups to be offered by a major manufacturer. “In today’s hospitality market, we are seeing an expanded opportunity for contemporary outdoor collections. It is an opportunity being driven primarily by the strong preference that many designers and managers of luxury resorts and hotels currently have for outdoor spaces featuring sleek and sophisticated contemporary styles. In particular, Veer fills the need for a cast aluminum collection to address this customer preference.
“With a few notable exceptions, cast aluminum outdoor collections typically are designed around a traditional style and have an ornate, old world look. In contrast, Veer has a simple, yet dramatic, visual flair and offers designers and specificers a cast seating solution that moves in a very contemporary direction. Contributing to Veer’s very modern look is the collection’s forward-leaning profile inspired by contemporary architectural designs with lines that steer clear of traditional right angles. The silhouette of the collection ‘veers’ boldly forward in a very modernistic way that points toward a progressive and exciting direction for casual furniture collections,” Echolds said.
Tropitone manufactures its cast aluminum collections, including the Veer Collection, with a high-quality aluminum alloy that is stronger than the alloys used by many other manufacturers of cast aluminum furniture. As a result, Tropitone’s furniture has superior durability and also features very well-defined ornamental details.
According to John Caldwell, who designed Veer, while the collection has a clean and airy look, it is simultaneously strong and bold – both in visual impact and construction. “The chair back and seat, which are all one piece, are supported with a dual spine. The collection’s arms and legs also are sculptured from one piece and feature shadow lines similar to those seen in the cars designed during the 1920s and 1930s. And Veer is the only cast aluminum seating collection available in today’s market offering either a cast aluminum seat or a sling seat, which creates the versatility designers need,” he said.
“For example, the dramatic and modern profile of the collection with it very stylistic, cast aluminum slats is ideal for the chic outdoor club settings so popular at fashionable resorts and hotels, such as those in South Beach. The Veer Collection with a sling seat, on the other hand, is well-suited for informal dining during the day and lounging by the pool. By offering both choices within one collection, designers can create a cohesive but distinctively different look to accommodate a variety of settings on the same property. In addition, because the Veer Collection is constructed of Tropitone’s high-quality cast aluminum, it has an underlying sturdiness and durability – despite its minimalist and elegant silhouette – which is so advantageous for high-use hospitality environments,” Caldwell said.
The Veer Collection with the cast aluminum slats seating includes a dining chair and barstool while the sling seating option in the collection is available in a dining chair, barstool and chaise lounge. The sling dining chair and chaise lounge are stackable.
Tropitone is debuting the Veer Collection in booth #4203 at the HD 2008 Expo and Conference to be held May 15 – 17 at the Sands Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
