Tropitone Debuts Its NOVARA Seating Collection -– An Artful Integration Of Strength And Beauty

Irvine, Calif. June 30, 2008 –Tropitone Furniture Co., a leading manufacturer of fine casual furniture, is debuting the Novara Collection, which features extensive use of castings to create exceptional overall stability as well as intricate ornamental details.

According to Tropitone’s vice president of design, Peter Homestead, the Novara Collection, designed by Carl Muller and inspired by the old world ironworks crafted by the artisans in Novara, Italy, is a skillful integration of strength and beauty.

“Novara has a generous scale and a strong architectural structure. Yet, at the same time, it has beautiful lines that flow smoothly throughout the frame. This includes the fully cast arm, which is gently draped and then finished with classically shaped scrolls both at the front and the back of the arm,” Homestead said.

Additional castings include the collection’s feet, which have a flirtatious flair, as well as the cross-bars, which wrap around to form a circle in its base. These numerous castings create stylish accents as well as substantial strength and stability, making the Novara Collection especially well-suited for outdoor settings in regions that can be blustery, he said.

According to the designer of the collection, Carl Muller, among the goals with Novara was to create a very fluid design, even though the aluminum and cast aluminum used in the frame are metal materials.

“A fluid design such as Novara with curves that reach across and wrap around creates an elegance that is characteristic of the traditional–styled wrought iron and carved wood balustrades in the staircases of old-world Italy. And the numerous cast ornamental details catch the light and create interesting shadows,” Muller said.

As with a variety of Tropitone’s other seating collections, Novara is available with different seating options to accommodate consumers’ different styles and personal preferences.

According to Homestead, a broad selection of choices is particularly important today, as consumers spend more time relaxing and entertaining in their outdoor spaces. In addition, as they focus more attention on furnishing these spaces to complement the style and comfort throughout the interiors of their homes, a broad array of product choices makes it possible to achieve their goals. And the colors and fabric selections that Tropitone offers coordinate well across each of the company’s product lines, including its tables/tabletops and umbrellas -- as well as its seating collections.

“Some consumers prefer our sling style seating, which has been a mainstay product category for us over the years and is available in a wide variety of fabrics and finishes. Our woven seating, featuring Tropitone’s proprietary woven material, Tropikane™, is also very popular, since it has the appearance of such natural materials as leather or wicker, but is durable enough for outdoor use and is easier to maintain,” he said.

The Novara Collection is available as both a sling and woven collection. The sling collection includes a dining chair with a low and high back, a swivel rocker with a low and high back, a swivel action lounger, an ottoman, a barstool and chaise lounge and is available in approximately 150 different fabrics and more than 10 different frame finishes. The woven collection includes a dining chair, swivel rocker, swivel action lounger, ottoman, barstool, and chaise lounge. The woven seating is available in Saddle (a deep brown) or Bark (a medium tan).

Founded in 1954, Tropitone is based in Irvine, California, and is recognized throughout the casual furniture marketplace for its design leadership as well as its commitment to service and value. The company sells its products to retailers, designers and the hospitality trade under the Tropitone and Basta Sole trademarks.
