Tropitone adds the WINDSOR Collection to its Industry -- Leading Sling Seating
Featuring superior lumbar support, Tropitone’s sling seating is recognized as the broadest offering in the casual furniture industry.
Irvine, Calif. July 23, 2008 – Tropitone Furniture Co., a leading manufacturer of fine casual furniture, is launching the Windsor Collection, which has a frame of simple, curved lines accented with dramatic, sweeping angles.
According to Tropitone’s vice president of design, Peter Homestead, while Tropitone has significantly expanded its seating collections over the years to include a variety of styles for the outdoor room, the sling seating, for which the company is so well known, continues to be among its best-selling products.
“We typically introduce several new sling seating collections each year to provide our customers a selection that is new -- but with the familiar comfort and exceptional durability they’ve come to expect from Tropitone’s sling seating. We believe the Windsor Collection, in particular,is likely to have a broad-based appeal, since it has a transitional style that allows it to ‘be at home’ in whatever setting it is placed,” Homestead said.
Frederic Doughty, who designed the collection, said that his inspiration came from the wrought-iron railings in the staircases of the Brownstone-style homes found primarily in the Eastern United States, particularly New York City and Boston.
“Brownstones were originally designed to avoid bringing in the dirt and mud from the unpaved roads which were still travelled, at that time, by horse-drawn carriages. The wrought-iron railings of these homes lead from the sidewalk to a second story entrance and are both functional and decorative. They add classic charm, which endures even in these homes today, while also making it safer and easier to pass up and down the steep staircases typical of Brownstone homes. In much the same way, the Windsor Collection is designed to be fashionable and decorative as well as functional.
“Like the wrought-iron works of the Brownstone homes, Windsor has many traditional-style details, including the shadow line that traces over the entire frame of the collection and the slightly flaired feet. However, the design of the collection blends these traditional-style details with contemporary lines that are very clean and straightforward. As a result, Windsor has a versatile look which can complement many different outdoor room settings,” Doughty said.
The Windsor Collection is available as sling, padded sling and woven seating, all of which can be coordinated with Tropitone’s extensive tabletop options as well as its shade products. The sling and padded sling collections include a dining chair with a low or high back, a swivel rocker with a low or high back, a swivel action lounger, an ottoman, a barstool and chaise lounge. All are available in approximately 150 different fabrics and more than 16 different frame finishes. The woven collection includes a dining chair, swivel rocker, swivel action lounger, ottoman, barstool, and chaise lounge. The woven seating is available in Saddle (a deep brown) or Bark (a medium tan).
