The Tropitone® brand was originally established as a commercial brand in 1954 when car travel was starting to boom in the USA. As travelers became familiar with Tropitone® brand products at hotels and resorts, they began asking where they could buy such comfortable, stylish and high quality products for their homes. Tropitone decided to fill that demand by offering commercial-quality products for sale at retail.
Tropitone changed the standards for an entire industry by applying the rigorous product and service requirements of the highly demanding commercial market to the residential market. We have broad and deep portfolios of products specifically designed for commercial and residential outdoor spaces, all with the same standards of excellence.

What You Want, When You Want It
To create a truly unique outdoor space, consider a custom order. Special vinyl and frame colors are available at additional charges and minimum order quantities. Many table and chair styles can be modified in height and size at additional charges with certain structural restrictions. Aluminum and Stainless Steel
Tropitone's most prominent material for frames is aluminum. This beautiful, versatile and durable material is perfect for designing frames of all styles of outdoor patio furniture. Stainless steel is also used for frames when a design demands such elegant material. Materials are bent and welded to form designs ranging from simple, clean and contemporary to complex, ornate and traditional.
Finishes
Tropitone was the very first to introduce the high-tech, incredibly durable powder coating process to the outdoor furniture industry. Today’s powder coat finishes are three times as thick as paint. Contract
Contract customers include hospitality, resorts, clubs, multifamily housing, restaurants, bars and cruise ships. Most contract customers buy directly from Tropitone through professional contact sales representatives, although some choose to buy from distribution partners authorized by Tropitone. These contract distributions partners specialize in servicing the contract marketplace.
Residential
Residential customers are serviced through an extensive network of designers and specialty retailers that are focused on residential outdoor patio furniture. These residential distribution partners are authorized by Tropitone and specialize in servicing residential customers.
Omni-channel
Many purchase decisions today include a digital component, whether a visit to a corporate website for information or an app to read product reviews. Our objective is to seamlessly integrate the digital and showroom buying experiences for our customers. 1954
Founding Tropitone Mr. Burt M. Baker, a retired Lockheed Aircraft engineer and executive at Grand Rapids Chair Co., moves to Sarasota, FL, and bought the Sarasota Redwood Furniture Company. He creates the Tropitone Furniture Company and the Tropitone® brand to serve the contract market, including hotels, motels, clubs and resorts with high performing outdoor patio furniture.
1960s
Revolutionizing Outdoor Furniture Quickly breaking away from traditional wood furniture, Tropitone® introduces powder coated aluminum finishes to the industry. Utilizing a multi-step wash process that ensures a lasting finish, Tropitone’s aluminum frames last longer under any environmental conditions. Finishes are offered in an ever-increasing palette of colors, styles, and textures ranging from sleek contemporary metallic to a charming antique patina. Tropitone also pioneers the technique of double-wrapping vinyl straps around the powder coated aluminum frame for extra durability. This technique continues today.
1970
California, Here We Come Tropitone Furniture Co., Inc. establishes operations in Irvine, CA, to serve the ever-growing demand for outdoor patio furniture in the western USA. This western base houses a full-service manufacturing facility and eventually becomes corporate headquarters. This move provides a bi-coastal manufacturing advantage and close proximity to North American customers which is crucial to respond quickly to ever-changing marketplace conditions.
1980s
Comfort is Key Cushion and sling seating are released. Available in several patterns and colors, Tropitone cushion seating is key to creating a comfortable entertaining space. Tropitone sling seating is the perfect combination of clean lines, designer fabrics and carefree maintenance. Sling seating provides a sleek, modern profile, without compromising the comfort of lush fabric seating. Tropitone sling and cushion seating options enhance any outdoor living space and will withstand the elements – season after season.
1990s
Superior Design for Seating and Umbrellas Basta Sole® Umbrellas and EZ Span™ brands are introduced. Basta Sole® patio and market umbrellas and cabanas deliver superior design and enduring value for both commercial and residential outdoor spaces. Available in a variety of shapes and colors, Basta Sole® Umbrellas provide shade and shelter to treasured friends and guests and have established an envied reputation for elegant details and masterful construction. Tropitone® EZ Span™ strap segments have the durability of the classic vinyl straps but take style, comfort and maintainability to a higher plane. EZ Span segments feature a ribbon or wave design, which brings vibrancy to the classic look, a wide surface area for greater comfort, and are a breeze to maintain.
2000s
Traditional Style with Modern Convenience TropiKane® woven furniture and RELAXplus® cushion seating are created. TropiKane® woven furniture offers a traditional style with modern materials. Replicating traditional rattan or wicker patio furniture, TropiKane® woven furniture utilizes man-made materials to ensure durability and will stand the test of time. RELAXplus® cushions bring enhanced comfort to chairs, chaise lounges, and sofas. Outdoor cushions now offer a construction comparable to the most comfortable and durable cushions used for indoor furniture, but utilizing materials specifically designed for the demands of the outdoors.
2012
Enjoy Outdoors The URComfort® seat adjustment system is launched. Utilizing multiple pivot points to allow articulated movement of both back and seat, URComfort® seating pieces can be adapted to any body size and weight with a simple adjustment of a single knob on each side of the seat. URComfort® seating is the first outdoor seating to be endorsed by the American Chiropractic Association (ACA). Tropitone launches a line of fire products to keep outdoor spaces warm year round. Fire pits and tables allow friends and guests to cook dinner, keep drinks cool, or share stories for years to come.

Sling and Relaxed Sling
Traditional single-layer slings offer a combination of clean lines, designer fabrics and carefree maintenance. Tropitone collaborated with key fabric suppliers to create a better system to guide customers through the selection of fabrics for traditional single-layer slings. Tropitone’s strong presence in both commercial and residential outdoor patio furniture gives us a unique perspective on the performance of sling fabrics in a wide range of applications. We combined our knowledge of fabric performance with fabric supplier specifications to create the system.
The single-layer sling fabric selection system is currently in use. Tropitone has shared its findings with its key fabric suppliers and is collaborating with them to improve current fabrics and create future fabrics. This collaboration will result in a wider assortment of fabrics designed specifically for traditional single-layer sling seating that are both beautiful and durable. Tropitone’s proprietary sling fabric selection system sets the performance standard for the industry.
Duplex Slings
Double-layer duplex slings further enhance the sling design by including an extensive assortment of color-coordinated cushion fabrics for the top layer. These fabrics previously could not be used for sling applications, except as the top layer of a padded sling. The use of different coordinated fabrics for the top and bottom layers greatly expands design flexibility. The double-layer design also offers added durability.
Padded Slings
Padded slings follow the double-layer design of duplex slings with the addition of fiberfill between the two layers of fabric. This design combines the clean lines of slings with the comfort of cushions. Padded slings are an elegant bridge between the two designs.

Single layer of fabric with a taut appearance
Relaxed Sling
Two piece sling constructed of a single layer of fabric and does not have a taut appearance. There is more fabric in the seat and back surfaces for a more casual appearance and a more casual sit.
Padded Sling
Two layers of fabric with fiberfill placed between the layers forming channels that produce a slight rounded padding to the sling. May have a different fabric on the front and back.

OUTDOOR ENTERTAINING
Tropitone has incorporated fire pits as an integral addition to our brand's table line. The models are beautiful, functional and coordinate with our current product offerings. But, most importantly, safety was designed into each model and each model has been certified by an independent agency.
The design allows for the combination of one of the Tropitone® brand's four most popular table top designs with a single common base in multiple finishes. Each fire pit and table is shipped fully assembled and includes table top, base and burner system.
Various media for fire pit burner pans are readily available in the marketplace and can be used with Tropitone® Fire Pits. Tropitone offers Bronze Reflective Fire Glass and Fire Pebbles, which can be ordered separately.
Tropitone® Fire Pits have received a listing from ICC Evaluation Service, LLC (ICC-ES) of Whittier, CA, providing evidence that the fire pits meet code requirements. Building officials, architects, contractors, specifiers, designers and others will utilize the ICC-ES PMG (Plumbing, Mechanical and Fuel Gas) listing to provide a basis for use of Tropitone® Fire Pits under ANSI Z21.97-2010, Outdoor Decorative Gas Appliance, Listing Number PMG-1114. The products have also been evaluated under the applicable International Codes published by ICC. The ICC-ES PMG program is accredited by the American National Standards Institute. The program operates under ISO/IEC Guide 65, "General Requirements for Bodies Operating Product Certification Systems."
